Satish Jarkiholi Pushes for Cabinet Positions for Valmiki Community
Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi announced plans to advocate for two Cabinet positions for the Valmiki community. This initiative comes as part of his ongoing discussions with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, aimed at ensuring representation for this significant group within the state government. Jarkiholi intends to present this request during the upcoming Valmiki Jayanti celebrations in Bengaluru on March 15, 2024.
Speaking to reporters in Belagavi on Monday, Jarkiholi emphasized the importance of these positions for the Valmiki community, which has historically sought greater representation in Karnataka’s political landscape. He noted that a similar appeal had been made previously but is confident that renewed efforts may yield positive results.
Jarkiholi plans to meet with the Chief Minister alongside the esteemed Valmiki community leader, Prasannanandji Swamiji, to reinforce their request. “We will also present our case to D K Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister and President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC),” he stated.
The Valmiki community has been vocal about its need for equitable representation in government. By seeking these two Cabinet berths, Jarkiholi aims to address longstanding concerns within the community regarding visibility and influence in state affairs.
As preparations for the Valmiki Jayanti celebrations ramp up, the political atmosphere in Karnataka is charged with anticipation. The outcomes of Jarkiholi’s meetings could have lasting implications for the community and its role in the state’s governance.
