Sachet-Parampara Initiates Legal Action Against KMKZ Over Plagiarism Claims

Sachet-Parampara, the musical duo behind the hit track “Raanjhan,” is set to take legal action against international music producer KMKZ following allegations of plagiarism. KMKZ claimed that the song’s piano composition was used without his consent, but Sachet-Parampara has dismissed these accusations as unfounded and driven by a desire for publicity.
The controversy erupted when KMKZ publicly accused T-Series, the production company behind the “Do Patti” soundtrack, of appropriating his musical work. In a video shared on Instagram, he asserted that he had uploaded the original beat two years ago and only recently discovered its use in “Raanjhan.” He expressed frustration over not being credited or compensated, stating, “They pretty much ripped the beat off YouTube without contacting, crediting, or paying me.”
In response to these allegations, Sachet-Parampara issued a statement to Hindustan Times, firmly rejecting the claims. They emphasized that major streaming platforms, including YouTube and Spotify, had already validated their authorship of the song. They noted that these platforms conducted thorough analyses and found no evidence of copyright infringement.
Legal Action and Defamation Notice
Sachet-Parampara expressed their intention to pursue legal action for defamation against KMKZ. They described the plagiarism claims as “baseless” and an attempt to discredit their work. “The person alleging they composed the music for ‘Raanjhan’ is making completely unfounded claims, clearly meant to stir controversy and gain visibility,” the duo stated.
They further elaborated that their original session files and piano scores had been submitted to streaming platforms, which confirmed their authorship. According to the findings, “Raanjhan” is based on a common F# major chord progression, which is widely used across various music genres. The platforms concluded that this sequence could not be attributed to a single artist, reinforcing the duo’s position against the plagiarism allegations.
About “Do Patti”
“Do Patti,” directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi and penned by Kanika Dhillon, features prominent actors Kajol and Kriti Sanon in leading roles. The film, which premiered on Netflix in October 2024, showcases a soundtrack that includes five songs, four of which were composed by Sachet-Parampara, including the now-controversial “Raanjhan.”
As the situation develops, the music industry is watching closely to see how this legal battle unfolds and what implications it may have for both parties involved.
