PM Modi Launches ₹2,200 Crore Development Projects in Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on March 15, 2024, to inaugurate and lay the foundation for various development projects valued at approximately ₹2,200 crore. He was warmly welcomed by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, marking a significant visit as Varanasi is Modi’s parliamentary constituency.
This trip includes the release of the 20th installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, which will see over ₹20,500 crore directly transferred to the bank accounts of more than 9.7 crore farmers nationwide. This initiative underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
Infrastructure and Connectivity Enhancements
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is set to enhance road connectivity in the region by inaugurating several upgraded roads, including the Varanasi–Bhadohi road and the Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar road. He will also open a new railway overbridge at Hardattpur, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion on the Mohan Sarai-Adalpura route. Additionally, he will lay the foundation stones for several future projects, including road improvements in Dalmandi, Lahartara–Kotwa, Gangapur, and Babatpur, along with new railway overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and in Khalispur Yard.
To further modernize Varanasi’s power infrastructure, Modi will launch electricity projects exceeding ₹880 crore. These projects include a Smart Distribution Project and initiatives to underground overhead cables, thereby enhancing the security and efficiency of power supply in the area.
Tourism and Heritage Restoration Initiatives
The Prime Minister’s agenda also focuses on boosting tourism and restoring cultural heritage. He will inaugurate the redevelopment of eight riverfront ghats and undertake beautification projects at the Rangildas Kutiya ghat and pond in Shivpur, as well as the restoration of Durgakund. Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for the restoration of the Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple, the development of Karkhiyaon—the birthplace of freedom fighters—and the transformation of Munshi Premchand’s ancestral home in Lamahi into a museum.
This visit represents another significant step in the ongoing transformation of Varanasi into a modern, connected, and culturally vibrant city. As the Prime Minister engages with the local community and addresses a public meeting expected to draw thousands of attendees, the focus remains on fostering development that directly benefits the people of Varanasi and the surrounding regions.
