PM Modi Addresses Nation on Independence Day, Targets Pakistan

August 15, 2025, marked India’s 79th Independence Day, celebrated with traditional flag hoisting at the historic Red Fort in Delhi. In his address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the success of Operation Sindoor, an anti-terror operation targeting sites in Pakistan. This operation was launched in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where civilians were killed after being questioned about their religion.
During his speech, Modi expressed pride in the actions taken by the Indian armed forces, stating, “I am very proud that from the ramparts of the Red Fort, I am getting the opportunity to salute the heroes of Operation Sindoor. Our brave jawans punished the enemy beyond its imagination.” The Prime Minister highlighted the significant outrage felt across India and internationally following the Pahalgam attack, where innocent lives were taken in a brutal manner.
The Prime Minister underscored that the Indian government provided its armed forces with a “free hand” during the operation, allowing them to determine the strategy and timing. He remarked, “After the 22nd, we gave a free hand to our armed forces. They decided the strategy, target and time. Our forces did what had never been done for several decades.” Modi noted that the scale of destruction inflicted on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan has been unprecedented, with ongoing revelations regarding the extent of the operation.
Modi’s address also included a stern warning regarding future actions by Pakistan, stressing that India will not differentiate between terrorists and their sponsors. “If the enemy dares to commit any more misadventures, the Indian Armed Forces will give them a befitting reply,” he stated. He reinforced India’s stance on nuclear threats, asserting, “We are not afraid of Pakistan and we will no longer tolerate nuclear blackmail.”
The Prime Minister also criticized the Indus Water Treaty, describing it as an “injustice” to India. He claimed that the treaty has favored Pakistan at the expense of Indian farmers, stating that the rivers of India should serve its people, not the enemy. “A compromise on farmers’ interests and national interests is not acceptable to us,” he declared. Modi emphasized that “blood and water will not flow together,” reiterating India’s long-standing suffering due to terrorism.
Overall, Modi’s Independence Day speech reflected a strong commitment to national security and a determination to address issues impacting India’s sovereignty and agricultural rights. The Prime Minister’s remarks resonate with a broader narrative of resilience and assertiveness in the face of external challenges.
