The junior sailor was on sentry duty when the man, dressed in a naval uniform, approached him under the pretense of relieving him from his post. After the sailor handed over his rifle and ammunition, the impersonator took over the sentry duty. However, he soon disappeared along with the weapon, prompting an immediate search by authorities.
Search and Investigation Underway
The Indian Navy and the Mumbai Police have initiated a coordinated search operation to locate the suspect and recover the stolen items. An official confirmed that a case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Cuffe Parade Police Station.
In response to the incident, a Board of Inquiry has been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the theft. The Indian Navy is providing full support to the ongoing investigation, which is also being pursued by other government agencies.
Authorities are treating this incident with seriousness given the potential security implications of a military weapon being stolen. The police have not released a description of the suspect, but they are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation.
As of now, the search for the man in the naval uniform continues, with law enforcement agencies emphasizing the importance of swiftly resolving the situation.
