The Mangalore Diocesan Service of Communion (MDSC) has been reconstituted with a new leadership team, following a two-day event held at Bishop’s House in Mangaluru on July 19 and 20, 2023. This initiative, blessed by Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of the Diocese of Mangalore, aims to enhance the service’s mission under the guidance of the National Service of Communion (NSC) and the Karnataka Regional Service of Communion (KRSC).

The reconstitution process began on the morning of July 19, starting with a Rosary and praise and worship session led by the Mangaluru team. The event included an introduction and formal inauguration, followed by a presentation by Fr Clifford Fernandes on the theme “Called and Chosen.” After a tea break, Victor John, NSC coordinator, engaged attendees with insights on “CCR & Leadership in the Church.” Participants were encouraged to ask questions, creating an interactive atmosphere.

In the afternoon, the programme continued with praise and worship before Fr Franklin D’Souza addressed the concept of servant leadership, drawing from Acts 8:9-22. He then presided over the Holy Eucharist, emphasizing the “Role and responsibilities of service team members,” referencing Mark 10:17-31. The day’s proceedings concluded with a brief adoration led by Fr Franklin D’Souza, wrapping up at 17:30.

The second day commenced with another praise and worship session, setting a reflective tone. Joy Anthony presented “The Oath: A commitment for 3 years in the mission of the Lord,” followed by a blessing from Monsignor Fr Maxim Noronha. Attendees participated in introductions, leading to the voting process for the new team. By 13:00, a new leadership team of seven members was elected, consisting of Dolphy Lobo as coordinator, Mercy Celine Menezes as secretary, and five other members: Ronald D’Souza, Jacinta D’Souza, Cyprian D’Souza, Rolma Rachel D’Costa, and Maurice D’Souza.

Following lunch, the Mangaluru team facilitated another praise and worship session. Fr Clifford Fernandes then initiated the selection process for a deanery representative to oversee renewal efforts within the deaneries. He expressed gratitude to the resource team for their contributions.

At 15:00, Fr Franklin D’Souza presided over the Thanksgiving Holy Eucharist, which included an oath-taking ceremony after the Gospel reading. The Mass concluded with a ceremonial laying on of hands for all attendees. The outgoing coordinator, Kevan D’Souza, formally transferred the necessary files and keys to Dolphy Lobo and his new team, marking a significant transition in the MDSC’s leadership.

This reconstitution is expected to invigorate the MDSC’s mission and strengthen its outreach within the community, fostering a renewed commitment among its members to serve and lead in accordance with their faith.
