Manchester United Not Pursuing Brighton’s Carlos Baleba This Summer

Manchester United will not be pursuing a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba this summer, according to reports. The decision comes as the club prepares to kick off their Premier League campaign against Arsenal at Old Trafford on August 20, 2023. Following a disappointing finish of 15th in the league last season, new manager Ruben Amorim is under pressure to rejuvenate the team.
Despite initial interest in Baleba, who has been linked with a move to the Red Devils, a report from The Athletic indicates that the club is unlikely to proceed with negotiations. David Ornstein details that discussions with Brighton began through intermediaries before both clubs engaged directly. Brighton has made it clear they do not intend to sell Baleba and plan to keep him for at least another season.
Brighton reportedly values Baleba at around £115 million, a fee comparable to what Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo. This valuation has deterred Manchester United from pursuing the young midfielder. While personal terms with the 21-year-old Cameroon international would not pose an issue, the two clubs’ inability to agree on a transfer fee has halted progress.
Manchester United’s Transfer Strategy and Midfield Needs
United’s recent transfer activity includes acquiring Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. With these additions, the club is expected to secure at least one more midfielder to strengthen their squad. Currently, the midfield options for Amorim include Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Casemiro in the no. 6 role.
Amorim acknowledges the need for an upgrade in the midfield, emphasizing that the club is looking for a player who can enhance their performance. He confirmed that Sesko is available for the upcoming match against Arsenal, stating that the Slovenian international is eager to make an impact in his debut season.
Injuries have also affected United’s preparation, with Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez ruled out for the match against Arsenal. As the season begins, all eyes will be on how Amorim will navigate these challenges and the overall performance of the team.
As Manchester United aims to restore their former glory, the focus will remain on strategic signings and effective management as the Premier League unfolds.
