Kerala Police Investigate Serial Killings After Recent Arrest

Police in Kerala are reopening investigations into three cold cases of missing women following the arrest of a 65-year-old man, identified as Sebastian, in connection with the recent disappearance of Jainamma. The investigation has uncovered disturbing evidence, including the recovery of charred body parts from Sebastian’s residence in Pallipuram, Alappuzha district.
Sebastian was arrested in December 2024 after authorities traced Jainamma’s mobile phone to his location. During a search of his property, police discovered remains that are currently undergoing DNA testing to confirm their identity. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are examining the possibility that Sebastian is linked to the disappearances of two other women: Bindhu Padmanabhan, who went missing in 2006, and Ayisha, who disappeared in 2012.
Linking the Cases
In the earlier cases, Sebastian was implicated in the sale of land belonging to Padmanabhan, who had been living away from her family. After her disappearance, her brother became suspicious and reported his concerns to the police. Investigators found that fraudulent documents had been used during the land transaction. Although Sebastian was questioned, he insisted he had no knowledge of her whereabouts.
In Ayisha’s case, while Sebastian was also under scrutiny, the investigation did not yield conclusive results. The recent discovery of remains at his property has prompted police to revisit these earlier cases and explore any connections to similar incidents involving women who have disappeared in the region.
Authorities also suspect that Sebastian’s modus operandi involves befriending women who live alone before potentially murdering them and stealing their valuables. Investigators are reaching out to local jewelry shops and financial institutions to gather more information on his activities and connections.
Ongoing Investigations
The search operations at Sebastian’s property will be extensive, given the large area, which includes small ponds that may harbor flesh-eating catfish. The ongoing investigations have raised concerns about the potential for more victims, as police work to uncover the full extent of Sebastian’s alleged criminal activities.
As the situation develops, Kerala’s police force is committed to ensuring justice for the families of the missing women. With the reopening of these cold cases, authorities hope to bring closure to those affected by these heartbreaking disappearances.
