Karnataka Government Launches Nearly 6,000 EV Charging Stations

The government of Karnataka has announced a significant initiative to reduce fuel costs and promote electric vehicle (EV) adoption by establishing nearly 6,000 EV charging stations. The announcement was made by Karnataka Energy Minister KJ George during his address at the EV Bazaar 2025, held on September 8, 2025, at the NIMHANS Convention Centre in Bengaluru.
Minister George emphasized the critical role of electric vehicles in shaping India’s future mobility. He described EVs as a crucial solution for gig workers struggling with rising fuel costs and as an essential strategy in the fight against air pollution. During his speech, he stated, “Electric vehicles represent the future of mobility in our country. By encouraging delivery partners and gig workers to switch to EVs, we not only help them manage rising fuel costs but also protect the environment.”
Karnataka is positioning itself as a leader in EV adoption, thanks to progressive policies and a robust network of over 5,700 charging stations. The minister highlighted the state government’s commitment to expanding EV infrastructure and providing incentives for both manufacturers and buyers. “Karnataka has been proactive in creating an enabling ecosystem for EV adoption. Financial support for EV buyers, incentives for manufacturers, and strategic investment in charging infrastructure are all part of this vision,” he added.
At the EV Bazaar 2025, key stakeholders from the electric vehicle ecosystem gathered, including manufacturers, rental operators, and charging infrastructure providers. Prominent two-wheeler EV manufacturers such as Hero Motocorp, TVS Motors, and Bajaj showcased their latest models. Over 18 EV companies participated, offering test drives and interactive demonstrations to attendees.
George also urged private companies to collaborate with the government to further promote EV adoption. He underscored the necessity for a robust charging and battery-swapping infrastructure to alleviate concerns about range anxiety, which remains a significant barrier to EV adoption. “Both fixed charging stations and swappable battery models are critical to building confidence among delivery partners,” he remarked.
The event also featured financial services like Stride Green and charging infrastructure providers such as Kazam and Indofast Energy, highlighting the diverse support network available for the EV sector.
This initiative by the Karnataka government not only aims to lower fuel costs but also seeks to enhance the overall sustainability of transportation in the region. As the state continues to invest in EV infrastructure, it sets a precedent for other regions in India to follow, reinforcing the importance of electric vehicles in the nation’s future mobility landscape.
