The Karnataka government has announced a one-time relaxation of three years in the maximum age limit for candidates applying for direct recruitment into the state civil service. This decision, revealed on Monday, is aimed at providing broader opportunities for aspirants across various categories.

According to an official statement from the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), the relaxation applies to all candidates participating in the selection process for civil service posts. The order is effective for applications invited after the date of this announcement, extending until December 31, 2027.

The government’s decision came in response to requests from public representatives and organizations who approached Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to advocate for an increase in the upper age limit. Previously, on September 6, 2025, a two-year age relaxation was granted, but following further representations, the government opted to revise this to three years.

The DPAR clarified that this measure is a one-time initiative designed to accommodate a larger pool of candidates. The government stated, “After examining the said representations, it has been decided to grant a one-time relaxation of three years in the maximum age limit.”

In conjunction with this announcement, the government reiterated earlier instructions to recruitment authorities, advising them not to issue new notifications for direct recruitment or fill backlog vacancies in certain reserved categories. This pause is in place pending the implementation of internal reservations for the Scheduled Castes.

This significant change aims to enhance accessibility for civil service roles, which are highly sought after in Karnataka, and ensures that a greater number of candidates have the opportunity to compete for these positions. The government hopes that this adjustment will facilitate an inclusive recruitment process, reflecting its commitment to supporting aspiring civil servants across the state.
