IndiGo Flight Diverted to Chennai Due to Security Threat

A flight operated by IndiGo from Mumbai to Phuket was diverted to Chennai on September 19, 2025, following the detection of a security threat onboard. The airline confirmed that Flight 6E 1089, which had just taken off from Mumbai, encountered the issue during its journey.

In adherence to established safety protocols, the crew promptly notified the relevant authorities about the potential threat. As a precaution, the flight was redirected to Chennai for thorough security checks. An IndiGo spokesperson stated, “IndiGo flight 6E 1089 operating from Mumbai to Phuket on 19 September 2025 was diverted to Chennai due to a security threat noticed onboard. As per the established protocol, relevant authorities were informed immediately and the flight will undergo necessary security checks in Chennai.”

Passengers faced some delays due to the diversion. The spokesperson noted that due to a night curfew at Phuket Airport, the resumption of the journey is scheduled for later that night. To alleviate the inconvenience, the airline is providing refreshments and regular updates to the affected customers.
