Organised by NCC Group Headquarters in collaboration with the Odisha Juba Prasiskshan Trust (OJPT), the event attracted hundreds of participants, including NCC cadets, youth volunteers, and local citizens.
The walkathon was officially launched by Surendra Kumar Swain, chairman of OJPT, who highlighted the event’s focus on themes of unity, discipline, national pride, physical fitness, and community bonding. Swain remarked, “This walkathon celebrates independence and symbolises youth empowerment, civic responsibility, and national unity. OJPT is proud to partner with NCC in nurturing patriotic, socially responsible, and fit young citizens for a brighter future.”
Promoting Youth Engagement and National Pride
The event was supervised by Commander Sushant Mohanty, Commanding Officer of the 3 Odisha Naval Unit NCC, who addressed the attendees about the values instilled by the NCC. He stated, “The NCC has long instilled discipline, leadership, and service-mindedness in youth. This Independence Day walkathon reaffirms our commitment to freedom, fitness, and fraternity.”
Participants included NCC cadets from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, alongside students and youth from various local organisations. The enthusiasm was palpable as the group came together not only for fitness but also to celebrate their shared national identity.
The event concluded with a ceremonial salute to the national flag and a rendition of the National Anthem, embodying the spirit of Azadi ka Amrit. This gathering reinforced the importance of civic engagement among the youth, fostering a sense of belonging and pride in their country.
