Central Railway Responds as Solapur Faces Severe Flooding

Heavy rainfall across Maharashtra in recent days has resulted in severe flooding, particularly affecting the Solapur Division of Central Railway. The Seena River, a tributary of the Bhima, has overflowed, leading to significant disruptions in railway operations. Consequently, train services on the Kurduvadi–Latur and Kurduvadi–Solapur routes have been impacted due to rising water levels.
To address the situation, several trains were short-terminated, and traffic was redirected through alternative routes, including Kurduvadi–Miraj and Kurduvadi–Latur. In response to this crisis, Dr. Sujeet Mishra, the Divisional Railway Manager, along with senior divisional officers, conducted on-site inspections to monitor ongoing operations.
Coordinated Response for Passengers
In collaboration with the Maharashtra State Transport Authority, bus services were established at key stations, including Kurduvadi and Madha, to assist passengers affected by the train diversions. To enhance support, help desks were set up at multiple locations such as Solapur, Latur, Dharashiv, Mohol, Pandharpur, and Madha, ensuring real-time guidance for travelers.
Ticket-checking staff have been deployed around the clock, both on trains and at stations, to provide assistance, particularly to vulnerable groups like senior citizens, women, and children. Essential supplies, including food items such as bananas and bottled water, have been distributed to stranded commuters. Additionally, medical teams are available for emergency assistance as needed.
Frequent updates have been shared through the official social media handle of the Solapur Division on X (formerly Twitter), local WhatsApp groups of passenger associations, and through public announcements at stations. Bulk SMS messages were sent to affected passengers to keep them informed. To further facilitate operations, extra ticket-checking staff and commercial inspectors (CCIs) have been stationed in high-traffic areas. Cash reserves have been prepared for processing refunds on-site.
Ongoing Restoration Efforts
The entire response effort has been closely coordinated by senior officials overseeing operations from the control office. Despite the adverse weather conditions, staff have continued to work diligently to minimize inconvenience for passengers.
Authorities have confirmed that restoration efforts are ongoing, with real-time information being shared as the situation evolves. The commitment of Central Railway staff during this challenging time highlights the importance of effective crisis management in ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
