A tragic incident occurred in Kolhabeda village, located within the Ghasipura block of Keonjhar district, where an 11-year-old boy, Raja Jena, lost his life due to a mud wall collapse late on the night of March 15, 2024. His mother, Anjana Jena, aged 30, and his younger brother, Aditya Jena, aged 6, sustained critical injuries in the disaster.
Reports indicate that the family was asleep when the wall, weakened by continuous rainfall, suddenly caved in around midnight. Villagers noted that the relentless downpour had compromised the structural integrity of the mud wall, leading to its collapse. Raja died instantly from the impact, while Anjana and Aditya were trapped beneath the debris.
Local residents quickly responded to the scene, rescuing Anjana and Aditya and transporting them to Anandapur Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Their condition remains critical as they receive care. The incident has deeply affected the community, casting a shadow of grief over Kolhabeda village.

A case has been registered at the Ghasipura police station under number 49/25. Following a post-mortem examination, the police have handed over Raja’s body to his family for final rites.
The community is mourning the loss of young Raja, with many residents expressing their condolences to the grieving family. This incident has raised concerns about the safety of similar structures in the area, prompting discussions about potential measures to prevent further tragedies in the future.
Local officials are expected to engage with residents to assess the stability of other mud structures and consider implementing guidelines to enhance safety in light of the recent environmental challenges posed by heavy rainfall.
As the family navigates this devastating loss, support from the community remains vital, reflecting the deep connections and shared resilience within Kolhabeda village.
