Boulder Strikes Army Vehicle in Ladakh; Rescue Efforts Underway

A boulder fell on an Indian Army vehicle in a remote area of eastern Ladakh on July 30, 2025, prompting a rapid rescue operation. The incident occurred around 11:30 hours near the town of Durbuk, where the vehicle was part of a military convoy. Officials confirmed that at least four soldiers, including one officer, sustained injuries in the accident involving an army SUV.
The Army’s Leh-based Fire and Fury Corps reported the incident on social media platform X, stating, “A boulder from a cliff fell on one of the vehicles of a military convoy in Ladakh, around 1130h on July 30, 2025. Recovery action is in progress.”
Rescue teams quickly mobilized to the scene to assist the injured personnel and assess the situation. The remote location poses significant challenges for the ongoing operation, as authorities work to ensure the safety of all involved. Further details regarding the conditions of the injured soldiers and the extent of the damage to the vehicle have yet to be released.
The area around Durbuk is known for its rugged terrain, which can be hazardous, especially during the monsoon season. Landslides and falling debris are common occurrences that can pose risks to both military and civilian vehicles traveling through the region.
As the rescue efforts continue, the Army has not disclosed specific information about the soldiers’ injuries or their current medical status. Local authorities are coordinating with military officials to ensure comprehensive support for those affected by the incident.
This unfortunate event highlights the inherent dangers faced by military personnel operating in challenging environments. The Indian Army remains committed to ensuring the safety of its troops while also conducting essential operations in strategically significant areas like Ladakh.
