Apple Enhances Safari with Advanced Fingerprinting Protection in iOS 26
Apple is set to enhance its Safari browser with the introduction of the Advanced Fingerprinting Protection feature, available by default on all tabs in the upcoming iOS 26. This significant update is expected to roll out in the coming months, following its beta release for developers and early adopters.
The Advanced Fingerprinting Protection was first announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2025, and it aims to provide users with enhanced privacy while browsing the web. Previously, this feature was limited to private browsing tabs introduced with iOS 17 in September 2023. With the full deployment of iOS 26, this protection will extend to all Safari tabs, marking a notable shift in user privacy measures.
Fingerprinting is a common practice used by companies to track users’ online activities. It creates a digital fingerprint based on various factors, including device settings, installed fonts, and the use of third-party browser extensions. This form of tracking can persist even after users clear their cache and browsing history, making it a significant concern for privacy advocates.
The Advanced Fingerprinting Protection feature combats this tracking by providing random information and altering hardware and software details. As a result, companies will find it increasingly challenging to accurately track user activities. Apple’s move follows similar initiatives in the industry, most notably by Firefox, which introduced similar protections in 2020.
In addition to improved privacy features, iOS 26 will also debut the new Liquid Glass interface, promising a more intuitive and visually appealing user experience. As Apple prepares for the official release of iOS 26, users can anticipate a stronger emphasis on digital privacy and a more streamlined browsing experience on Safari.
This development comes at a time when user privacy is at the forefront of discussions regarding internet security. With growing concerns about how personal data is collected and utilized online, Apple’s proactive approach aims to reassure users that their online activities can be protected against invasive tracking methods. As September approaches, the tech world eagerly awaits the full launch of iOS 26 and its suite of features.
