Veteran cricketer Rohit Sharma has been included in the Mumbai squad for the initial two matches of the 2025 Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). This decision comes as a surprise after earlier reports suggested he might miss the matches. Mumbai will kick off their campaign against Sikkim on December 24, followed by a match against Uttarakhand.

The team will be led by Shardul Thakur and features notable players such as Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Despite the excitement surrounding Rohit’s return, the squad will be without some key players, including Ajinkya Rahane, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ayush Mhatre.

Sharma’s availability was confirmed after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mandated that all centrally contracted players participate in at least two rounds of the VHT. Following this tournament, he is set to join the Indian team for an ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled to begin on January 11.

New Faces in the Squad

Mumbai’s squad not only includes seasoned players but also introduces new talent. Among the newcomers is Chinmay Sutar, who has previously played four List A matches for India Emerging in 2019. Other fresh entrants include batter Ishan Mulchandani and fast bowler Onkar Tarmale, who was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad during the IPL auction.

The complete squad for the VHT features a mix of experience and youth. Key players include wicketkeeper-batter Siddhesh Lad, wicketkeeper Hardik Tamore, and bowlers such as Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Tushar Deshpande, and Sairaj Patil.

Mumbai’s squad for the VHT is as follows: Shardul Thakur (captain), Rohit Sharma (for two games), Ishan Mulchandani, Musheer Khan, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Sarfaraz Khan, Siddhesh Lad, Chinmay Sutar, Akash Anand (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Tushar Deshpande, Onkar Tarmale, Sylvester D’Souza, and Suryansh Shedge.

As the tournament approaches, the Mumbai team aims to leverage both their experienced players and emerging talents to secure a strong start in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
