Max Verstappen Races in Nurburgring Endurance Series with Emil Frey Racing
Max Verstappen is set to compete in the ninth round of the Nurburgring Endurance Series, driving a Ferrari 296 GT3 for the Emil Frey Racing team. His participation comes during a two-week break in the Formula 1 calendar, showcasing his relentless commitment to racing. Verstappen’s mother, Sophie Kumpen, expressed her pride, highlighting that her son is never far from the racetrack.
Earlier this year, the four-time Formula 1 champion tested at the Nurburgring Nordschleife under a pseudonym. This experience prepared him for future racing events on the famed track. To officially compete in the Nurburgring Endurance Series, Verstappen needed to use his legal name, which now allows him to participate in sanctioned events.
Kumpen noted that despite Verstappen’s impressive accolades in Formula 1, he still had to navigate the necessary qualifications to race in the endurance series. He first obtained a DMSB A permit, essential for racing in GT3 cars. This process began with a theory test, after which he raced a detuned Porsche Cayman GT4 for Lionspeed GP alongside teammate Chris Lulham.
Verstappen’s attitude towards the regulations has been pragmatic. He commented, “rules are rules,” indicating his willingness to comply with the necessary procedures. His preparation culminated in a successful qualifying session, where he earned a third-place start for the ninth round of the NLS.
As Verstappen embarks on this new challenge in endurance racing, he continues to demonstrate his versatility and passion for motorsport. The Nurburgring, often referred to as “the green hell,” presents a unique set of challenges, and his participation in this series underscores his dedication to his craft.
For fans and motorsport enthusiasts, this race marks an exciting opportunity to see Verstappen adapt his skills to a different racing format, further solidifying his reputation as a formidable competitor on any track.
