Kuldeep Yadav’s Coach Criticizes Gambhir and Gill Over Selection Bias

Kuldeep Yadav, recognized as one of the top spinners in the Indian cricket team, has yet to feature in the ongoing Test series against England. The team management has consistently chosen bowling all-rounders over the skilled wrist spinner for the playing XI. This decision has prompted a strong reaction from Kuldeep’s childhood coach, Kapil Pandey, who has accused the management of unfair practices.
Pandey expressed his frustration regarding Kuldeep’s exclusion, questioning the rationale behind this ongoing decision. He stated, “We have to decide whether we are looking for a batter or a bowler. If he is a bowler, he should play as a bowler, and he is a top performer, who picked 21 wickets against England in only six Tests.” He also highlighted Kuldeep’s batting capabilities, noting that he scored 117 runs in the Ranji Trophy and had a notable performance against Bangladesh three years ago.
Despite Kuldeep’s impressive statistics, including a strong showing in the ICC Champions Trophy with seven wickets in five matches and 15 wickets in 14 matches during the Indian Premier League, Pandey indicated that the selectors seem to have overlooked his abilities. “I thought he would play all five Tests given his form. He is one rare spin bowler who has two ODI hat-tricks,” he remarked.
### Accusations of Bias
Pandey did not hold back in his criticism of the selection process, particularly targeting Gautam Gambhir, the coach, and Shubman Gill, the captain. He suggested that there is a bias against Kuldeep, stating, “It is strange that India is using left-arm spinners despite having a wrist spinner in the mix.”
He compared the situation to legendary spinner Shane Warne and questioned the decision to field lesser-known spinners like Bashir, who has played three Tests against England while Kuldeep has not played a single match. “Our players are getting out to Bashir is more surprising. I think I can also bowl like Bashir,” Pandey added, expressing disbelief at the current selection choices.
The ongoing debate over Kuldeep Yadav’s absence from the team highlights not just his individual talents but also raises questions about the broader selection criteria employed by the Indian cricket management. As the series progresses, the pressure mounts on the team and its leaders to reconsider their strategy and ensure that top-performing players receive the opportunities they deserve.
