Kamindu Mendis Leads Sri Lanka to 133 Runs Against Pakistan in Asia Cup
In the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match held at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Sri Lanka posted a total of **133 runs** for the loss of eight wickets against Pakistan. This performance was significantly bolstered by the efforts of **Kamindu Mendis**, who scored **50 runs** off **44 balls**, including three boundaries and two sixes.
Sri Lanka opted to bat first but faced early setbacks as they lost wickets at regular intervals. The innings began poorly for the team when opener **Kusal Mendis** was dismissed for a duck on the very first ball of the match. Following him, star batsman **Pathum Nissanka** also struggled, managing only **eight runs** from seven balls before returning to the pavilion.
The team’s situation did not improve as **Kusal Perera**, who had shown promise with a boundary and a maximum, fell shortly after making **15 runs** off **12 balls**. Captain **Charith Asalanka** contributed **20 runs** from **19 deliveries**, featuring two boundaries and a six, but the team continued to lose momentum.
Adding to the disappointing performance, **Dasun Shanaka** was dismissed without scoring, leaving Sri Lanka in a precarious position. Later in the innings, **Wanindu Hasaranga** managed to score **15 runs** off **13 balls**, which included two boundaries, but it wasn’t enough to stabilize the innings.
With Sri Lanka’s batting lineup struggling to build partnerships, Kamindu Mendis stood out as a “lone warrior.” His crucial half-century provided the team with a respectable total, but the challenge remains as they face a strong Pakistan side in the ongoing tournament.
As the tournament progresses, Sri Lanka will need to reassess their batting strategy to enhance their chances in future matches. Further updates on the match and player performances will follow as the Asia Cup continues.
