Denver Broncos Secure Zach Allen with $103 Million Extension

The Denver Broncos have solidified their defensive lineup by agreeing to a four-year, $103 million contract extension with defensive end Zach Allen. This deal, confirmed by multiple sources, will commence in 2026 and includes $69.5 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Allen’s extension mirrors the recent contract signed by wide receiver Courtland Sutton and extends through the 2029 season.
Currently, Allen is in the final year of a three-year, $45.75 million deal he signed with the Broncos in 2023. His existing contract, which features a base salary of $12.74 million, will remain in effect as the new agreement is structured as a true extension. This approach has been consistently adopted by the Broncos for other significant contracts, including those for Sutton and cornerback Pat Surtain II.
Allen’s Performance and Impact on the Team
Allen’s performance last season distinguished him as a high-volume player in the defensive line rotation. He participated in an impressive 89% of the Broncos’ defensive snaps, earning a spot as a second-team All-Pro. His contributions included a career-high 40 quarterback knockdowns and 8.5 sacks, playing a key role in the Broncos setting a franchise record with 63 sacks. Allen’s 61 tackles last season also marked a personal best.
Head coach Sean Payton has frequently praised Allen’s stamina and versatility, noting, “I think it’s a strength. Zach has that stamina and that cardio where he’s in great shape.” Payton compared Allen’s endurance to that of former New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Cam Jordan, emphasizing the importance of maintaining performance levels even late in games.
Discussions regarding Allen’s contract extension have taken place throughout the offseason and during training camp. Allen and his representatives aimed for a new deal reflective of his contributions over the past two years with the team.
Future Considerations for the Broncos
With Allen’s and Sutton’s contracts finalized, attention now turns to outside linebacker Nik Bonitto. Bonitto, who was also recognized as a second-team All-Pro last season, led the Broncos with 13.5 sacks and is entering the final year of his rookie contract. As a second-round pick in 2022, he is poised to become an unrestricted free agent in March 2024.
The Broncos are actively working to enhance their roster as they continue the construction of their new 205,000-square foot facility. With key contracts secured, the team is positioning itself for a competitive future in the NFL.
