Ben Stokes Hints at Participation in Final Test Against India
England captain Ben Stokes has indicated that he is likely to participate in the fifth and final Test against India at The Oval. Despite dealing with an injury sustained during the recent match at Manchester, Stokes expressed optimism about his availability. He stated, “pain is just an emotion,” highlighting his determination to contribute to his team.
In the fourth Test match at Old Trafford, the Indian batting lineup showcased their strength, with notable centuries from skipper Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar. The England team faced considerable frustration as they struggled against the visitors, who refused to relent and continued to build their score. Stokes acknowledged the challenges posed by India’s dominance, saying, “I don’t want to eat my words but the likelihood I won’t play is very unlikely. I’ll always try to give everything, always try to run through a brick wall for the team.”
Stokes is currently managing discomfort in his right bicep tendon, which he aggravated while bowling 11 overs during the match. He explained, “It’s my bicep tendon. It obviously had a lot of workload through it, but it didn’t get any worse. Hopefully, it settles down and will be as good as gold for the last game.” His commitment to the team remains unwavering, as he noted, “Bowling and being out on the field is tough work. I’m feeling pretty sore. I’ve physically been better. But I’ll keep trying, keep going.”
Throughout the series, Stokes has emerged as England’s standout performer, taking a total of 17 wickets. His impressive five-wicket haul in the Manchester Test further solidified his reputation as a key player. After enduring a demanding 143 overs in India’s second innings, he recognized the physical toll on the team, emphasizing the need for fresh and energetic players for the final Test.
With the series hanging in the balance, Stokes’ potential return to the field will be crucial for England as they aim to regain momentum against a formidable Indian side. The match at The Oval is scheduled to begin on July 7, 2023, and fans will be watching closely to see if their captain can overcome his injury and lead the team in this decisive encounter.
