Abhishek Sharma Shines with 75 as India Sets 168 Against Bangladesh

India faced a challenging match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2025, concluding their innings at 168 runs for the loss of six wickets on Wednesday in Dubai. Star performer Abhishek Sharma played a pivotal role, scoring 75 runs off just 37 deliveries, showcasing his explosive batting skills with six fours and five sixes. Despite his efforts, India experienced a significant decline in momentum after his departure.
The Indian team began their innings strongly, reaching 96 runs within the first ten overs. However, they managed to add only 72 runs in the following ten overs, indicating a stark drop in scoring rate. The absence of wicket-keeper Sanju Samson from the top seven was notable, especially since he had been a regular opener prior to this match.
In the initial overs, the batting partnership between Shubman Gill and Sharma was promising. They capitalized on opportunities, particularly in the fourth over when they scored 21 runs off left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed. Abhishek made a powerful statement against Mustafizur Rahman, hitting a six that soared over the long-on boundary.
Despite their strong start, the Indian batting line-up faced difficulties once Gill was dismissed for 29 runs off 19 balls. Rishad Hossan, the leg-spinner, made a significant impact by claiming the wickets of Gill and Shivam Dube, derailing India’s momentum. Hossan ended his spell with figures of 2 for 27 in three overs, proving instrumental in Bangladesh’s comeback.
As the innings progressed, India’s scoring slowed significantly. Sharma reached his half-century in just 25 balls, but his run-out, following a mix-up with Axar Patel, marked a turning point in the game. Following Sharma’s exit, the Indian batting order struggled to maintain the aggressive pace. Axar, who managed only 10 runs off 15 balls, appeared out of rhythm in the promotion to bat higher in the order.
After Sharma’s departure, Hardik Pandya stepped up with a vital contribution, scoring 38 runs off 29 balls. His efforts brought India close to the 170-run mark, but the team ultimately fell short of what seemed like a competitive total at the outset.
On the bowling front, Bangladesh’s Tanzim Hasan Sakib impressed with figures of 1 for 29 in four overs, displaying pace and precision. Mustafizur also proved effective, taking one wicket while employing his trademark variations to keep the Indian batsmen in check.
The match sets the stage for an intriguing contest as Bangladesh prepares to chase down the target, having demonstrated resilience in their bowling attack. With the Asia Cup 2025 in full swing, all eyes will be on the upcoming innings as both teams vie for crucial points in the tournament.
