Union Minister Khattar and CM Fadnavis Open New Electric Testing Lab
The Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) inaugurated its electric testing laboratory today, September 10, at Shilapur in Nashik district. The event was attended by Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, alongside Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan. This facility represents a significant advancement for the industrial and electrical engineering sectors in Nashik and throughout Maharashtra.
Spanning across 100 acres, this state-of-the-art laboratory is the first CPRI electric testing facility in western India. The project received approval in February 2013 and has been a collaborative effort that includes contributions from Bhujbal and former Member of Parliament Sameer Bhujbal. The establishment of the lab addresses a long-standing need for local testing services, as manufacturers previously had to send their products to distant cities like Bhopal or Bengaluru for evaluation.
Nashik, recognized for its growing industrial and educational landscape, is home to over 450 small and medium enterprises specializing in the manufacturing of electrical panels and equipment. The new facility is expected to facilitate local entrepreneurs and enhance their productivity by providing essential testing services within the region.
Officials from CPRI, a Central Government institute operating under the Ministry of Power, emphasized that the laboratory is more than just a testing site. It serves as an important hub for electrical safety and research, promoting quality certification in response to the rising global demand for electrical equipment. As Nashik continues to evolve, the lab is poised to bolster the city’s reputation in the electrical engineering sector.
Nashik’s industrial growth is further supported by the presence of multinational companies such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Siemens, Kirloskar, ABB, Crompton, and Schneider Electric. The opening of the CPRI electric testing lab is anticipated to strengthen these industries and solidify Nashik’s position as a key player in the regional market.
The inauguration of this facility marks a significant milestone for the local economy, providing essential resources for manufacturers and contributing to the overall development of the electrical engineering field in Maharashtra.
