Senior Living Conclave 2025 Explores Future of Elder Care in Chennai

The **Senior Living Conclave 2025** took place in **Chennai** on Sunday, organized by **The Hindu Group** in collaboration with **Ashiana Vatsalya**. This event highlighted the increasing demand for structured senior living and the imperative for inclusive, elder-friendly communities. Over **350 participants**, including senior citizens, caregivers, and industry experts, gathered to share insights and experiences.
Sessions during the conclave addressed key topics such as retirement living, wellness, assisted care, and home-based elder support. Notably, **Ankur Gupta**, the joint managing director of **Ashiana Housing Ltd.**, discussed the evolution of continuing care retirement communities (CCRC). He emphasized the importance of fall management systems, emergency care services, and the growing trend of ageing with autonomy and dignity. Gupta noted that **Tamil Nadu** is witnessing a surge in senior living projects, particularly in cities like **Coimbatore**, **Chennai**, and **Kancheepuram**.
Sharing Personal Experiences
The event featured personal stories from residents of **Ashiana Shubham**, which served to illustrate the human impact of such living arrangements. **Radhashiva Mani**, a resident, shared her experience moving from **Kolkata** to **Chennai**. She expressed her satisfaction with the community, stating, “Shubham felt right. It was thoughtfully designed for seniors like us with care, comfort, and community.”
The panel discussion included other residents who spoke about their transitions and adjustments. **Ramakrishnan V.V.** and his wife recounted their move and the positive changes they experienced. **Shantha Mathew** shared her journey of starting a YouTube channel after settling into the community, showcasing the diverse interests of the residents. **L. Balasubhramanian** described his participation in cultural events and theater, while **Ravindra** and his wife highlighted the peace of mind their move provided to their family.
The Future of Senior Living in Tamil Nadu
Currently, Tamil Nadu is estimated to have between **18 to 25 senior living projects**. Common features of these communities include anti-skid flooring, grab bars, emergency call systems, and in-house healthcare support. Additionally, amenities such as yoga halls, hobby clubs, walking tracks, and dining services are part of the offerings.
Following the conclave, a site visit to **Ashiana Vatsalya** was organized for interested participants, providing an opportunity to experience the facilities and services first-hand. The focus on creating supportive environments for seniors reflects a growing recognition of their needs in society, paving the way for a future where elderly individuals can thrive in community settings that prioritize their well-being and dignity.
