Dr. Devina Vaidya Assumes Role as Director of Research at Nauni University
Dr. Devina Vaidya has officially taken over as the Director of Research at the Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry in Nauni. This appointment follows the retirement of the previous director. With an impressive career spanning over 37 years, Dr. Vaidya brings extensive experience in teaching, research, and administration to her new role.
Before becoming Director of Research, Dr. Vaidya held several prestigious positions, including Dean of the College of Horticulture and Forestry in Neri and Associate Director at the Regional Horticulture Research Station in Bajaura. She joined the university in 1989 and has since made significant contributions to the field of postharvest technology.
Throughout her career, Dr. Vaidya has managed 11 major research projects funded by various agencies. Her research focuses on critical areas such as postharvest management of fruits, vegetables, and mushrooms, as well as the development of skill infrastructure and agri-entrepreneurship. She has also conducted studies on food safety, postharvest losses, and indigenous processing technologies.
A notable innovator in her field, Dr. Vaidya holds multiple patents related to food technology and functional product development. Her work includes advancements in herbal formulations, juice preservation, and the creation of healthy snacks. She has actively promoted commercially scalable technologies, enhancing industry connections to benefit agricultural practices.
Dr. Vaidya’s commitment to education is evident in her mentorship of numerous postgraduate, PhD, and diploma students specializing in postharvest technology and food science. Her extensive research has led to numerous publications in reputable national and international journals, further establishing her as an authority in her field.
In recognition of her contributions, she has received multiple awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Agricultural Extension and Development Society (AEDS) and the ICAR Dr Rajendra Prasad Puraskar for Best Technical Book in Hindi. Additionally, she was honored with the Uma Dutt Mamgain Best Thesis Award for her role as a guide.
Upon taking office as Director of Research, Dr. Vaidya articulated her vision for the role. She expressed her determination to enhance the university’s research ecosystem, drive innovations in horticulture and forestry, and develop impactful technologies that will benefit farmers and the broader community. Her leadership is expected to foster a collaborative research environment that prioritizes practical solutions and advancements in agricultural science.
