The 13th edition of the SAI Model United Nations (SAIMUN) concluded on March 16, 2025, in Bhubaneswar, wrapping up two days of intense discussions and cultural exchanges among approximately 750 delegates from 23 countries. This year’s conference featured a broad range of topics addressing critical global issues, showcasing the intellectual engagement and collaborative spirit of the participants.

At the closing ceremony, Surama Padhy, Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, delivered a keynote address that highlighted the significance of youth involvement in international affairs. “It is indeed encouraging to see such eloquent, thoughtful, and internationally-minded young minds gather at SAIMUN. This conference is not merely a gathering; it is a melting pot where leaders are forged through conversation, diplomacy, and respect for one another,” Padhy stated. She emphasized that empowered youth hold the potential to tackle pressing global challenges and contribute to a more equitable, peaceful, and sustainable future.

The diverse array of issues discussed included geopolitical tensions, public health, and human rights. Delegates engaged in debates on topics such as the Global Arms Trade and the implications of the US Second Amendment, the Yemeni Houthi Attacks and regional security in the Red Sea, as well as the persecution of Tibetan Buddhists in China. Other significant subjects included women’s rights under the Taliban, health emergencies in large cities, and the global burden of non-communicable diseases.

Additionally, discussions centered around regional connections, such as India-Bangladesh relations, and issues like war crimes and child abduction in Ukraine. The conference also tackled the challenges of safeguarding children from online abuse and the implications of state-sponsored disinformation on press freedom.

A highlight of the conference was the Global Village, where students from countries including Uganda, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Papua New Guinea came together to celebrate cultural diversity. Participants showcased their rich heritages through music, traditional clothing, art, and food, emphasizing the importance of cross-cultural friendships and unity.

Dr. Silpi Sahoo, chairperson of the SAI International Education Group, expressed her views on the transformative power of SAIMUN. “This platform allows students to engage with global issues, practice diplomacy, and foster empathy. Through these sessions, they learn to appreciate diverse ideas, have meaningful conversations, and develop into better individuals. SAIMUN reflects our vision of delivering purposeful education in a rapidly changing world,” she remarked.

On the final day, the conference released the official newsletter, SAI Tribune 2025. Compiled by the International Press Corps, the publication provided a comprehensive account of the event, featuring articles, delegate profiles, interviews, and behind-the-scenes insights.

As SAIMUN 2025 came to a close, the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by the delegates underscored the importance of youth voices in shaping the future of international relations. The event not only fostered debate on critical issues but also cultivated a sense of global community among the participants.
