President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated a new foot overbridge on Rajpur Road in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on November 3, 2023, during her three-day visit to the region. The ceremony was attended by Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, and Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), the Governor. This newly constructed infrastructure aims to enhance pedestrian safety and ease traffic flow in the bustling city.

During her visit, President Murmu will participate in various events, including the 20th convocation ceremony of Kumaon University in Nainital, where she will present gold medals to outstanding students. The President is scheduled to remain in Uttarakhand until November 4. On November 4, she plans to offer prayers at the Neem Karoli Maharaj temple located in Kainchi Dham, according to reports from the news agency ANI.

Security Preparations for the Presidential Visit

In anticipation of her visit, security measures have been heightened. The Additional Director General of Police, V Murugesan, held a meeting with senior police officials in Nainital to ensure comprehensive security arrangements. Riddhim Agarwal, Inspector General for the Kumaon region, confirmed that approximately 1,500 police personnel from district headquarters have been deployed. In addition to police presence, Sub-Divisional Magistrates and sector magistrates have been stationed at critical locations, and forest staff have been assigned to monitor the area.

Given the high-profile nature of the visit, a special traffic diversion plan has been implemented to facilitate smooth transit during the President’s stay. The Dehradun District Administration has also declared a “Silent Zone” around the President’s residence, effective from 10:00 on November 3 until one hour after her departure on November 4. The designated area includes Rajpur Road from Brahmkamal Chowk to Rashtrapati Niketan, extending 100 meters around the Mussoorie Diversion and 300 meters around the Vidhan Sabha.

Upcoming Engagements in Nainital

On November 3, President Murmu is set to address the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in Dehradun, coinciding with the silver jubilee celebrations of the state. Following this address, she will travel to Nainital, where she will also participate in a program commemorating the 125th anniversary of the establishment of Raj Bhavan.

With the President’s itinerary packed with significant events, the visit underscores her commitment to engaging with the citizens and institutions of Uttarakhand. The inauguration of the foot overbridge, alongside her attendance at educational and ceremonial functions, highlights the government’s focus on infrastructure development and community engagement in the region.
