PM Modi Joins Durga Puja Festivities in Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Durga Puja celebrations at Chittaranjan Park in Delhi, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Maha Ashtami. His visit to the cultural hub of the Bengali community in the capital was both a spiritual observance and a significant political gesture, particularly with the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal in 2026.
Arriving at the renowned Kali Bari temple complex, PM Modi offered prayers to Goddess Durga and engaged in the traditional sandhya aarti. The ceremony was enhanced by the rhythmic sounds of dhak and the fragrant aroma of incense, creating an atmosphere of devotion and celebration. The event was organized by the CR Park Durga Puja Cooperative Society and attracted thousands of devotees and spectators, many of whom described the occasion as “historic.”
In a message shared on social media, PM Modi expressed his sentiments about the event. “Today, on the auspicious occasion of Maha Ashtami, I went to Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park to take part in the Durga Puja celebrations. Chittaranjan Park is known for its strong association with Bengali culture. The celebrations truly reflect the spirit of unity and cultural vibrancy in our society. Prayed for everyone’s happiness and well-being,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister’s presence at this significant festival was viewed as a meaningful outreach to the Bengali diaspora, who often maintain close ties with their home state. As cultural performances, food stalls, and thematic decorations filled the area, the local community, many of whom are descendants of refugees from East Pakistan, expressed pride and joy at the recognition from the nation’s leader.
Security measures were stringent throughout South Delhi, with traffic diversions and protocols from the Special Protection Group in place to ensure the safety of the Prime Minister and attendees. Despite these challenges, the atmosphere remained vibrant and celebratory.
As chants of “Jai Maa Durga” resonated through the pandal, PM Modi’s participation underscored the importance of festivals as a means of connecting diverse communities. This event served as a reminder of India’s rich cultural tapestry and the enduring spirit of inclusivity that characterizes the nation.
