PM Modi Condemns Abuse of His Mother Amid Bihar Political Tensions
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed recent abuses directed at his mother during the Congress-led ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar, expressing profound distress over the incident. Speaking during a virtual event in Delhi on November 7, 2023, he stated that although he might forgive the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, the people of Bihar would not extend the same leniency.
Modi’s comments came in response to derogatory remarks made against his mother at a political rally in Darbhanga. He criticized the opposition, emphasizing that such insults are trivial for those who disrespect “Mother India.” “My late mother had nothing to do with politics; she was an innocent victim,” he remarked. He called for accountability for those responsible for such disrespectful behavior.
During his address, Modi highlighted the cultural significance of Bihar, stating, “This is the land of Maa Janki… it has always given respect to women.” He expressed disbelief that his mother could be insulted from the stage of a political gathering. “It was an insult to the mothers and daughters of Bihar… people of the state will never forgive them,” he declared.
Reflecting on his mother’s sacrifices, Modi said, “She had never brought a saree for herself and saved the money for us.” He reiterated his commitment to women’s welfare, which he attributes to the values instilled in him by his mother. He denounced those who demean women, pointing out that such attitudes lead to widespread suffering. “Whenever people with an anti-women mentality came to power, mothers, daughters, and sisters had to endure suffering the most,” he asserted, noting the challenges faced during the RJD’s time in power.
Modi accused the RJD of fostering an environment of crime and violence, stating, “The RJD government gave protection to murderers and rapists.” He claimed that this history of violence led to their removal from power and suggested that the party now seeks vengeance against women.
He also criticized the Congress party, alleging that it has a history of undermining individuals from backward communities. Modi emphasized that while he could forgive the political parties involved, the people of Bihar would not, urging them to hold these leaders accountable in the upcoming assembly elections.
“People of Bihar must demand answers from RJD and Congress leaders… in every street and neighbourhood, only one voice should be heard — ‘we won’t tolerate insult to a mother,’” he stated. His remarks are expected to resonate deeply with voters as Bihar prepares for elections later this year.
As political tensions escalate in Bihar, PM Modi’s statements serve as a rallying cry for his supporters, highlighting the emotional weight of familial respect in the realm of politics.
