AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi raised significant questions regarding India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which took place on April 22, 2024, and the ongoing cricket ties with Pakistan. Speaking at a press conference in Pune on Tuesday, Owaisi expressed his views on the military operation that was launched following the attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people.

During the event, Owaisi humorously dismissed the notion of fantasizing about leadership, stating, “I do not dream about all these. I live in reality and know the extent of my reach.” He emphasized that his motivations do not revolve around seeking political power or ministerial positions.

Owaisi’s comments focused on the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, where he criticized the Indian government’s response. He referred to the military operation, known as Operation Sindoor, which aimed to target terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He questioned why the operation had been paused, stating, “Why did it stop? I don’t know, truly, I don’t know why it stopped… The whole of India was prepared to respond.” Owaisi’s remarks highlight a sentiment among some leaders regarding the need for decisive action in the face of terrorism.

The operation’s status has been clarified by officials, who indicated that while it has been paused, it has not been completely halted. Owaisi’s comments come amidst ongoing discussions in Parliament regarding the situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

In addition to his remarks on military action, Owaisi addressed India’s participation in sporting events against Pakistan, particularly the recent Asia Cup matches. He expressed concern about playing cricket with Pakistan in light of the heightened tensions post-attack. “After the Pahalgam attack, India launched Operation Sindoor and destroyed terrorist sites. The Indus Water Treaty was suspended, and trade was halted. So why are we still playing cricket with Pakistan? What was the need for that match?” Owaisi asked.

While he criticized the decision to play cricket with Pakistan, Owaisi clarified that his comments were not aimed at the Indian cricket team, which he praised as “a great team.” He further asserted that Pakistan’s cricket team “is no match for it,” suggesting a belief in the superiority of India’s cricketing prowess.

These statements came shortly after India secured its ninth Asia Cup title with a victory in Dubai. Owaisi’s remarks reflect broader discussions in India regarding national security and international relations, especially in the context of sports diplomacy and geopolitical tensions.

As the nation grapples with the implications of these issues, the dialogue initiated by Owaisi serves to highlight the complexities of security, politics, and national identity in contemporary India.
