Noida Cab Driver Faces Backlash After Abusive Incident with Passengers

A disturbing incident involving a cab driver and a group of women passengers in Noida has sparked significant online outrage after a video of the confrontation went viral. The footage, shared on Instagram, depicts a heated exchange where the driver is seen using abusive language and threatening the passengers, escalating to a point where he charges at them.
The video, recorded by one of the passengers, shows the driver pulling a stick from his vehicle while demanding payment. The situation intensified when the passengers refused to pay, prompting one woman to suggest recording the incident. This seemingly provoked the driver further, leading him to aggressively confront the woman holding the camera. The altercation culminated with the driver insisting that a passenger “get out” of the vehicle, showcasing his escalating hostility.
According to the post shared by Tashu Gupta, the cab was booked from the Botanical Garden metro station to Sector 128, Noida. Gupta explained that the group of five women asked the driver to take an underpass instead of making a U-turn due to heavy traffic. Despite their requests, the driver proceeded with the U-turn, leading to the confrontation. Gupta recorded the incident in an attempt to document the driver’s aggressive behavior.
In the video, the driver is heard telling the passengers, “chup chap se baithi reh jo maps pr dikha raha h vahi se leke jauga,” which translates to “sit quietly, I will take the route shown on the map.” This statement reflects his dismissive attitude towards the passengers’ concerns. As the situation escalated, the women threatened to report him to the authorities, emphasizing that their complaint was not about the fare but rather about the disrespectful treatment they received.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation online, with many users expressing their concern for women’s safety in urban transport. One user remarked, “He’s literally holding the rod in his hand and some men will still wait for his side of the story.” Another pointed out the audacity of the driver, stating, “The most shocking thing is…he has guts to do all this in broad daylight.”
Responses to the video highlight a growing call for stricter measures against such behavior, particularly in the context of women’s safety while using cab services. The incident raises significant questions about the accountability of cab drivers and the safety of passengers in urban areas like Noida.
As authorities review the situation, many are advocating for stronger protections for women in public transport, emphasizing the need for a safer environment for all passengers.
