Nirmala Sitharaman Visits Karur Stampede Victims’ Families
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the site of a tragic stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on March 25, 2024. She was accompanied by Union Minister L Murugan and Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran. The visit aimed to provide support to the families affected by the incident, which resulted in multiple fatalities, including that of a five-year-old boy named Pradeep.
During her visit, Sitharaman met with grieving family members and offered assurances of comprehensive assistance. Affected family members expressed their sorrow and shared their experiences with the minister. “She (Sitharaman) came to meet us. We told her we are in a very sad state,” recounted Nagamani, the grandmother of Pradeep. She highlighted that the minister encouraged her to support Pradeep’s mother, who has been deeply affected by the loss.
Another family member, Palaniammal, who is the daughter-in-law of a victim named Arakani, also spoke about the visit. She noted that both Sitharaman and Murugan promised all possible assistance. Palaniammal mentioned that Prime Minister Modi had inquired about the situation, indicating the government’s concern for the families impacted by the tragedy.
The stampede occurred during a local event, creating chaos that led to the unfortunate loss of life. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, aiming to prevent such tragedies in the future. The visit from high-ranking officials underscores the government’s commitment to support those who have suffered from this heartbreaking event.
While the families mourn their losses, they are hopeful for the support and assistance promised by the government. The assurance from senior officials provides a measure of comfort during such a difficult time.
