NIA Seizes Properties of Hizbul Mujahideen Associate in Kashmir

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has attached multiple properties belonging to Tariq Ahmad Mir, identified as an Over Ground Worker (OGW) for the Hizbul Mujahideen, in the Maldera village of Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir. This action follows Mir’s arrest in April 2025, where he faces charges related to his involvement in supplying arms and ammunition to active terrorists associated with the banned group.
The properties seized include a residential house and a piece of land. The residential house is a single-storey concrete structure encompassing 780 sq. ft. of land, recorded under Survey No. 82 Min as Shamilat (Khahcharai) in Maldera. Additionally, the NIA has attached a piece of land measuring eight marlas, categorized as Abi-Soum and located under Survey No. 74 Min in the same village, which has been maintained as an orchard.
Legal Framework and Context
The attachment of these properties was executed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), following directives from an NIA Special Court in Jammu. This operation is part of the NIA’s ongoing strategy to disrupt the financial and logistical frameworks that support terrorist activities in the Kashmir Valley.
Mir’s legal troubles stem from the case designated as RC-01/2020/NIA/JMU. He was formally charge-sheeted for his role in the terror network, a move that underscores the agency’s commitment to tackling terrorism in the region.
Broader Implications
The NIA’s actions signal a robust effort to undermine the operational capabilities of groups like Hizbul Mujahideen, known for its long-standing insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. The agency’s focus on asset seizure reflects a broader strategy to limit resources available to these organizations, thereby impacting their ability to carry out violent activities.
With the ongoing conflict in the region, the NIA’s relentless pursuit of individuals linked to terrorism highlights the complexities of security and governance in Jammu and Kashmir. The agency continues to work towards ensuring that individuals involved in supporting terrorist networks face legal consequences for their actions.
As investigations proceed, the NIA remains vigilant in its efforts to dismantle the networks that threaten peace and security in this volatile region. The case against Tariq Ahmad Mir serves as a reminder of the agency’s mandate to address the challenges posed by terrorism head-on.
