JP Nadda Critiques Himachal Government for Fund Mismanagement
JP Nadda, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has sharply criticized the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh for alleged mismanagement and corruption regarding the utilization of funds from the central government. Speaking at a public gathering in Shimla on March 2, 2024, Nadda asserted that there has been “no shortage of funds” provided by the Union government, emphasizing that financial assistance has always been available when requested.
Nadda highlighted that significant amounts of money, running into thousands of crores, have been allocated for various initiatives, including disaster relief, infrastructure development, and health services. He claimed, however, that these funds have not been effectively translated into tangible results. “From disaster relief to infrastructure, thousands of crores were released. But there has been misuse, mismanagement, and corruption,” he stated.
He pointed out that many projects remain incomplete and funds are left unspent, suggesting a systemic failure in governance. “Treasuries remain closed, key administrative posts are on additional charge, and there is no coordination even within the cabinet,” Nadda noted, describing the current administrative function as inadequate compared to previous standards.
Call for Political Change in Himachal Pradesh
Nadda characterized the current situation in Himachal Pradesh as a decline from its historical standing as one of the best-governed states in India. “Himachal Pradesh once ranked among the best-governed states; today, it suffers from administrative collapse,” he declared. He appealed for a “double-engine government,” arguing that effective development requires coordination between the central and state governments.
He emphasized, “Himachal Pradesh needs a double-engine government again so that funds reach the ground and development is visible.” Nadda expressed the BJP’s commitment to reviving development momentum in the state under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During his address, he invited the populace to consider the contrasting leadership styles, stating, “On one side is Modi ji, ready to bless Himachal with development, and on the other is a Congress government unworthy of that trust.”
Nadda concluded his address by calling for a change in government, stating that the current circumstances necessitate more than just administrative adjustments. “Time demands not just administrative change but change of government as well. I am confident the people will fulfil this responsibility,” he asserted.
As political tensions heighten ahead of the upcoming elections, Nadda’s remarks reflect a broader campaign strategy by the BJP to reclaim political power in Himachal Pradesh by emphasizing accountability and effective governance.
