Director of Delhi Ashram Accused of Sexually Harassing Students

Seventeen female students have filed a complaint against Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, the director of a prominent ashram in Delhi, alleging sexual harassment. The accusations involve inappropriate behavior, including the use of abusive language, lewd messages, and unwanted physical contact. The students are enrolled in a Post Graduate Diploma in Management program at the Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management, located in Vasant Kunj, under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) scholarship.
In their complaint, the students reported that they faced pressure from teachers and staff to acquiesce to the director’s demands. Some indicated that the wardens of the ashram had facilitated their initial introductions to Chaitanyananda, raising concerns about the institutional environment surrounding the allegations.
Police Investigation Underway
The Delhi Police confirmed that a case of sexual harassment has been registered against Chaitanyananda. Officers conducted raids at the institute and his residence as part of the investigation, which includes reviewing CCTV footage to gather evidence. Authorities also discovered a vehicle associated with Chaitanyananda parked in the institute’s basement, which was found to have a fake number plate.
As the investigation progresses, police have indicated that the director is currently out of station. Efforts are underway to locate him for questioning.
Following the serious allegations, the Sringeri Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, the governing body of the ashram, announced that Chaitanyananda has been relieved of his duties as director. In an official statement, the organization condemned his actions as unlawful and contrary to the values upheld by the institution.
The situation has raised significant concern among the student body and the wider community, prompting discussions about safety and accountability within educational institutions. The police investigation remains ongoing as they work to uncover the full extent of the allegations and ensure justice for the complainants.
