BJP Courts Actor Vijay’s Party Amid Political Turbulence in Tamil Nadu

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is actively seeking to align with actor Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), as it prepares for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Following the recent disaster in Karur, BJP leaders are mobilizing efforts to leverage Vijay’s extensive fan base to bolster their electoral prospects.
In an apparent bid to support Vijay, a senior BJP official assured TVK that the actor will not face isolation if he is targeted unfairly by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. This strategy aims to undermine the DMK’s influence and rally Vijay’s supporters to the BJP’s cause. Sources indicate that the BJP has advised Vijay to exercise patience during this politically charged period.
The BJP’s leadership believes that the DMK government will encounter significant anti-incumbency sentiments in the upcoming elections. They have consistently criticized the DMK for its handling of the Karur tragedy, attributing much of the blame to the government’s inadequate preparation. The BJP contends that TVK should not bear sole responsibility for the incident.
With Vijay’s popularity, the BJP sees a potential opportunity to sway voters who might otherwise support smaller parties, such as the DMDK (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam) and NTK (Naam Tamilar Katchi), towards TVK. “Vijay’s influence could be decisive in shaping voter preferences,” a BJP insider noted.
While pursuing this alliance, the BJP is also treading cautiously to maintain its existing coalition with the AIADMK. Reports suggest that Congress is also engaging with TVK, further complicating the political landscape in Tamil Nadu.
As the political climate intensifies, both the BJP and TVK are positioned to make strategic moves leading up to the elections. In the coming months, the actions of these parties could significantly impact Tamil Nadu’s political dynamics, particularly in light of the DMK’s current governance and the challenges it may face from an energized opposition.
