Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, announced that the Bihar Assembly elections will take place before November 22, 2025, the date when the current Assembly’s term concludes. During a press conference held in Patna, he confirmed that preparations are underway for the elections across the state’s 243 constituencies, which include two reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs) and 38 for Scheduled Castes (SCs).

The Election Commission of India has recently completed a two-day review visit to Bihar, focusing on enhancing the electoral process. In a move to ensure transparency and efficiency, the Commission is implementing 17 new reforms for the upcoming elections. Among these reforms, the introduction of colour photographs on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) aims to improve voter engagement and recognition. Additionally, the Commission will ensure 100% webcasting of polling stations, enabling real-time monitoring of the electoral process.

This marks the first time that the Election Commission has provided training for booth-level officers in Bihar, a critical step in pre-election readiness. Kumar emphasized the significance of these measures in enhancing the integrity and credibility of the electoral process. The Commission aims to foster an environment where voters can exercise their franchise with confidence.

The announcement has been met with interest from various political parties and stakeholders in Bihar. With the state elections approaching, the focus will now shift to how these reforms will influence voter turnout and the overall electoral landscape in Bihar.

As the Election Commission prepares for this important democratic exercise, the implementation of these reforms is expected to set a new standard for electoral practices in India. The outcome of the Bihar Assembly elections could potentially influence political dynamics in the region, making it a closely watched event for both local and national observers.
