Andhra Pradesh Minister Calls for End to Granite Strike
In a bid to bring an end to the ongoing strike in the granite industry, Andhra Pradesh Mines Minister Kollu Ravindra has emphasized the government’s commitment to support the sector. During a meeting held at the state secretariat, he reassured industry representatives from Guntur and Prakasam districts that the administration is dedicated to addressing their concerns effectively.
The meeting involved discussions about the financial challenges faced by granite cutting and polishing units, particularly due to uniform seigniorage payments that apply regardless of raw material grades. Stakeholders expressed their worries over the economic strain this policy imposes on their operations. In response, Ravindra urged the granite unit owners to conclude their strike to avert further hardships for workers and to prevent potential factory shutdowns.
Government Initiatives and Committee Formation
To facilitate a resolution to the issues raised, the Andhra Pradesh government is taking proactive measures. A committee has been established, comprising officials from the mining department and representatives from various industry associations. This panel will systematically review the grievances presented by the granite industry stakeholders, addressing key concerns such as royalties and the broader impacts of the ongoing strike.
Kollu Ravindra assured those present that the committee would submit a comprehensive report within one week. The aim is to forge a path that ensures justice for all stakeholders involved, preventing losses to both the factories and the administration. By taking these steps, the government seeks to foster a more stable environment for the granite industry, which plays a significant role in the local economy.
The minister’s call for a resolution reflects a balancing act between supporting the industry while ensuring that workers are not adversely affected by the ongoing labor action. As the situation develops, all eyes will be on the findings of the newly formed committee and the government’s response to the industry’s pressing needs.
