Amit Shah Advocates Tough Stance on Illegal Immigration in Lok Sabha
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed strong support for the Special Intensive Revision of the voters list conducted by the Election Commission of India during a heated session in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. He reiterated the current government’s firm stance against illegal immigration, stating that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will not permit illegal migrants to remain in the country. Shah outlined a clear policy of “detect, delete, and deport,” emphasizing that illegal immigrants would neither be recognized nor normalized on voter lists.
In his remarks, Shah underscored the potential dangers of demographic manipulation, warning that such actions could lead to further division in a country that has experienced significant fragmentation in the past. “This country was divided once, and we do not want the new generation to see such division again,” he stated. His comments came during a broader discussion on electoral reforms, where he engaged in sharp exchanges with opposition members.
As tensions escalated, Shah accused the opposition of deliberately obstructing legislative proceedings and spreading misinformation. He challenged them directly, questioning their motives as they staged a walkout during his address. “The main issue is the listing of illegal immigrants. These people are scared; they have fled. They cannot hear the truth,” he remarked, expressing frustration over the perceived disruption of parliamentary business.
Shah highlighted concerns regarding infiltration along the 2,216 km border with Bangladesh, linking the issue to national security and the integrity of democratic processes. He specifically targeted the Trinamool Congress, suggesting their support for illegal immigrants would lead to electoral consequences. “If you protect the illegal immigrants with Rahul Gandhi’s ghuspethiya bachao yatra, you will be wiped out, and the BJP will win again,” he warned.
His speech reflected the growing divide between the NDA and the opposition coalition, known as the INDIA bloc. The debate over illegal immigration has emerged as a particularly contentious issue, with Shah framing it as central to the country’s future and electoral integrity. He concluded by asserting that Bihar has already shown a clear mandate in favor of the NDA and predicted similar outcomes in West Bengal.
The ongoing discussions on electoral reforms continue to elicit strong reactions from both sides, with illegal immigration remaining a pivotal topic in Indian politics. As Shah’s comments underscore, the implications of these policies could significantly impact future elections and the political landscape in the country.
