Uttar Pradesh Supports Athletes with Jobs and Enhanced Facilities

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that Uttar Pradesh is leading the nation in providing employment opportunities for athletes, with over 500 athletes hired into government positions. This statement came during the closing ceremony of a two-day state-level senior wrestling championship at the Gorakhnath Temple on August 22, 2023. The Chief Minister reiterated the commitment of the state government to promoting sports and supporting athletes.
During his address, CM Yogi highlighted significant improvements in sports infrastructure across Uttar Pradesh over the past eight years. He noted the development of facilities from village-level playgrounds to mini stadiums at the block level and full stadiums at the district level, making sports accessible to all residents.
In addition to job offers, the state government provides cash awards to medal winners in national and international competitions. The Chief Minister credited the launch of the ‘Khelo India’ initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has transformed India’s sports landscape since 2014. He emphasized that Indian athletes, including those from Uttar Pradesh, have excelled on the global stage, showcasing remarkable talent and determination.
CM Yogi quoted a Sanskrit saying, ‘Shariram Madhyam Khalu Dharma Sadhanam’, which underscores the importance of physical fitness as a fundamental aspect of success. He urged the youth to embrace sports, not only for career advancement but also for their overall well-being.
At the wrestling championship, CM Yogi attended the final matches and presented awards to the winners. Notably, Jonty Bhati from Gautam Buddha Nagar claimed the UP Kesari title, receiving a cash prize of ₹101,000 and a mace. Other winners included Saurabh from the Gorakhpur Sports Hostel, who was named UP Kumar, and Monu from Gonda, who secured the Veer Abhimanyu title.
On the occasion of Nag Panchami, CM Yogi described the festival as a symbol of spiritual strength and harmony with nature. He remarked that the wrestling event beautifully merges tradition with athleticism, serving as a vibrant platform for demonstrating both physical prowess and spiritual vitality.
Overall, Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to enhancing sports facilities and supporting athletes through employment opportunities reflects a growing cultural emphasis on fitness and athletic achievement in the region.
