Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the second Indian to reach space, received a warm welcome in his hometown of Lucknow on Monday. The Uttar Pradesh government organized a ceremony to honor his remarkable achievements following the successful completion of NASA’s Axiom-4 space mission. The event drew considerable attention, with children and supporters gathering at Lucknow Airport to greet him upon his arrival.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak was among those present to welcome Shukla, expressing pride in his accomplishments. “The son of Lucknow and India, Shubhanshu Shukla’s arrival is being awaited by the whole of Lucknow,” he stated. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the significance of Shukla’s return, calling it a “big day” for the city. “We welcome our beloved as he comes home, and we feel proud of his achievements,” Pathak remarked.

After arriving at the airport, Shukla headed to the City Montessori School in Gomtinagar for the felicitation ceremony. Large crowds gathered in various locations throughout Lucknow, reflecting the excitement and admiration for Shukla. His return was not only a personal homecoming but also a moment of national pride.

Earlier, on Sunday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recognized Shukla and his colleagues—Group Captain P V Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, and Group Captain Angad Pratap—during a separate felicitation event. Shukla expressed gratitude for the recognition and spoke about the importance of the Axiom-4 mission. He noted that the insights gained from this mission will contribute significantly to India’s future space endeavors.

“India is on its journey of a human space flight—Mission Gaganyaan, the Bharatiya Antriksh Station, and eventually landing on the moon,” Shukla stated. His comments highlight the ongoing efforts in Indian space exploration, showcasing a future filled with potential.

Shukla returned to Earth on July 15, 2023, after completing the Axiom-4 mission. His landing in Delhi was met with celebration, but the homecoming to Lucknow was particularly special for both him and the local community. The enthusiasm surrounding his achievements serves as a testament to the growing interest in space exploration within India.

As Shukla continues to inspire the youth of Lucknow and beyond, the recognition he received from both state and national leaders underscores the significance of his contributions to the field of space travel. The event in Lucknow not only celebrated his individual accomplishments but also marked a milestone in India’s ambitious space program, energizing the nation’s aspirations for future missions.
