Telangana Women Leaders Celebrated in Dubai During Bathukamma 2025

Prominent women leaders from Telangana received recognition in Dubai during the Bathukamma 2025 celebrations, an event that underscored the cultural connections between the Indian state and the Gulf region. The ceremony took place on Sunday, September 28, coinciding with the conclusion of the nine-day festival known as Saddula Bathukamma.

Among those honoured were notable figures such as Alluri Krishnaveni, Vice-President of the Telangana State Mahila Congress; Dr. Vennela Gaddar, Chairman of the Telangana State Cultural Council; and Aaduvala Jyothi, Chairperson of Jagityal Municipality. Their contributions to the community and cultural heritage of Telangana were celebrated in a vibrant gathering.

The event was organised under the leadership of Anil Mengu, Coordinator of the Pravasi Mitra Labour Union Bar in Dubai. His efforts, along with those of other community leaders, aimed to strengthen ties between Telangana and the diaspora in the Gulf region.

Support for Migrant Workers Highlighted

During the festivities, attention also turned to the Telangana government’s plans to establish a Gulf Board focused on the welfare of migrant workers. Community members expressed enthusiasm for this initiative, hoping it would lead to enhanced support systems and timely interventions for those working abroad.

Speakers at the event commended the Congress government for its proactive measures to assist Gulf workers. These measures include providing Rs 5 lakh (approximately $6,000) in financial assistance to the families of deceased workers, launching Pravasi Prajavani for grievance redressal, and forming an advisory committee to shape welfare policies.

On behalf of the Gulf workers’ community, Anil Mengu extended gratitude to the Telangana government and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for prioritising the welfare of migrant workers while fostering cultural engagement abroad.

The Significance of Bathukamma

Since the establishment of Telangana in 2014, Bathukamma has been celebrated as the state’s official festival. This year’s festivities commenced on September 20, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Telangana. Women participate in creating intricate floral arrangements, singing, and dancing, while also integrating modern elements like DJ songs and YouTube releases into the celebrations.

The festival serves as a vibrant symbol of Telangana’s community spirit and cultural richness, drawing attention not only to its traditions but also to the ongoing efforts to enhance the lives of its diaspora. As the celebrations concluded, the recognition of women leaders highlighted their vital role in promoting cultural ties and community welfare, both at home and abroad.
