St Aloysius Gonzaga School in Mangaluru celebrated its 14th Annual Day on December 12, 2023, under the theme “Srishtinova – A blend of science and nature.” The event showcased the integration of scientific advancement, creativity, and a commitment to environmental stewardship, underscoring the school’s educational philosophy.

The chief guest for the occasion, Raju K, KAS, who serves as the additional deputy commissioner and additional district magistrate of Dakshina Kannada District, emphasized the significance of the theme during his address. He encouraged students to pursue scientific exploration with curiosity while also advocating for the protection of nature and the importance of upholding moral values. Raju K highlighted the pervasive influence of social media on youth, advising parents to regulate their children’s engagement with digital platforms to cultivate a healthy balance.

Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, rector of St Aloysius Institutions, delivered the presidential address, reinforcing the idea that true progress involves a harmonious balance between scientific development and ethical considerations. He stressed the need for holistic education grounded in Jesuit values, which aim to cultivate well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to society.

The principal, Fr Rohan D’Almeida SJ, presented the Annual School Report, detailing the institution’s accomplishments across various domains. The report showcased achievements in academics, sports, Olympiads, cultural activities, and community outreach initiatives.

As part of the festivities, students who excelled in both academics and sports were recognized for their achievements. The event featured a vibrant cultural programme that celebrated the students’ talents and creativity. Highlights included a delightful performance by kindergarten students, thematic dances performed by various class groups, a special song presentation, yoga displays, a fashion parade, and a skit presented by students from classes VI to XII.

Each performance effectively illustrated the theme of Srishtinova, celebrating the connection between scientific innovation and the beauty of nature. The cultural showcases not only entertained but also reinforced Jesuit values of environmental responsibility and the thoughtful application of knowledge.

The programme was coordinated by a dedicated team including Deepthi Karkada, Shilpa Ballal, Sushmitha K S, Beena Pais, Averyl J Rebello, and Gayathri Tanthri, whose efforts contributed to the event’s success.

St Aloysius Gonzaga School continues to foster an environment where students are encouraged to explore the intersections of science, nature, and ethical values, preparing them to be conscientious leaders for the future.
