PGA Golfer Jake Knapp’s Girlfriend Makena White Dies at 28
PGA Tour winner Jake Knapp‘s girlfriend, Makena White, passed away earlier this week at the age of 28. This tragic news was announced by a friend on Knapp’s Instagram account on Friday, revealing the profound loss felt by her family and friends. The message described White as a unique individual whose ability to make others feel special was unmatched.
“Hi everyone – this is Makena’s friend, writing with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week,” the post stated. “She is already so deeply missed by her Dad, her family, her friends, and of course by Nelly and Fergie. To be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos.”
While the cause of Makena White’s death has not been disclosed, her recent social media activity hinted at health struggles. In the months leading to her passing, she had started to share details about her declining health, including plans for multiple surgeries. Just six weeks ago, on June 2, 2025, she posted on X (formerly Twitter) about her upcoming procedures, which included two cardiac and one vascular surgery.
“Happy RBC Canadian Open week & 1st week of June! 2 cardiac & 1 vascular surgery standing between me and watching my crush play in my home country!” White wrote, referencing the golf event in which Knapp participated. She also shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed, indicating she had tachycardia, a condition characterized by an elevated heart rate.
In her posts, White expressed unwavering support for Knapp, who is currently the No. 80-ranked golfer in the world after winning the Mexico Open in February 2022. The couple began dating two years ago and publicly confirmed their relationship shortly after Knapp’s victory.
On the day of her passing, White’s friend provided details on how to honor her memory. Donations can be made to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund. White’s mother, Crystal, had been a patient at the Bruyère Clinic after suffering strokes that resulted in cognitive issues and was later diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She passed away in April 2022.
In a statement to The Daily Mail, Jake Knapp reflected on their time together, stating, “We shared so many unforgettable memories, and now that she’s no longer with us, it’s a difficult reality to grasp.” He emphasized her kindness and energy, urging for privacy for her family and friends during this challenging time.
White’s legacy will undoubtedly remain in the hearts of those who knew her, and her influence will continue to resonate in the golf community and beyond.
