Man Arrested with Illegal Firearms in Ahmedabad’s Kaligam
A significant arrest occurred in Ahmedabad on March 14, 2024, when local authorities apprehended a 27-year-old man for allegedly carrying illegal firearms and live cartridges. The suspect, identified as Sagar Thakor, was taken into custody near Kaligam after a tip-off led to a swift response from the city crime branch.
According to a report filed by constable Mahesh Khoda, the detection of crime branch (DCB) team received information around 17:30 that a man with firearms was moving toward New Ranip. Acting promptly, the officers set up surveillance near Auda Garden in Kaligam, where they soon spotted an individual matching the suspect’s description.
Upon intercepting Thakor, officers conducted a search of the blue bag he was carrying. The search revealed a concerning cache: three pistols, a country-made revolver, and five live cartridges. The total estimated value of the seized items is approximately ₹75,500. This includes two unmarked pistols valued at ₹25,000 each, a smaller pistol worth ₹20,000, a country-made revolver priced at ₹5,000, and cartridges valued at ₹500.
During initial questioning, Thakor claimed he acquired the weapons from a man named Ramesh in Sanchore, Rajasthan. However, officials have yet to verify these details. A case has been registered under various sections of the Arms Act and Section 135 of the Gujarat Police Act. Authorities have initiated further investigations to trace the supply chain of these weapons.
This arrest highlights ongoing concerns regarding illegal firearms in the region and the efforts of local law enforcement to address these issues. As investigations continue, the authorities aim to dismantle networks that facilitate the illegal arms trade.
