Kurukshetra University Celebrates Haryanvi Culture with Teej Festivities

The Haryana Dharohar Museum at Kurukshetra University hosted the ‘Hariyali Teej Utsav’ on Sunday, celebrating the rich cultural traditions of Haryana. The event attracted significant participation, emphasizing the region’s vibrant heritage and festive spirit. Som Nath Sachdeva, Vice-Chancellor of the university, attended as the chief guest and highlighted the importance of the festival in reflecting the deep-rooted traditions and values associated with Indian culture.
Hariyali Teej, celebrated on the third day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Shravan according to the Hindu calendar, signifies the onset of the monsoon. It is celebrated not only for its cultural significance but also for its emphasis on environmental awareness and women’s empowerment. During the festivities, Sachdeva expressed warm wishes to the university community, noting that the arrival of the monsoon creates a ‘green veil’ over the earth, inspiring celebrations filled with folk songs and traditional swings.
The celebrations included sharing sweets among attendees, which fostered a sense of community and togetherness. In addition to Sachdeva, Virender Pal, the Registrar of Kurukshetra University, and several staff members took part in the festivities on the museum lawns, further enhancing the atmosphere of joy and cultural pride.
The event served as a reminder of the importance of preserving and promoting regional traditions while also encouraging participation from the younger generation. Such celebrations not only enrich the cultural fabric of the university but also contribute to a broader understanding of Haryana’s history and values.
As communities around the world increasingly focus on sustainability and cultural heritage, events like the ‘Hariyali Teej Utsav’ at Kurukshetra University play a crucial role in fostering appreciation for local traditions. The university’s efforts to celebrate these occasions highlight the significance of cultural identity in contemporary society, inspiring future generations to engage with their heritage actively.
