Indian Army and Civilians Conquer Mount Reo Pargial Together
The Mount Reo Pargial Expedition, a collaborative effort between the Indian Army and local civilians, reached its peak on September 9, 2023, successfully hoisting the national flag atop the challenging Himalayan summit. The expedition was part of Operation Sadbhavana, which aims to foster military-civilian partnerships and promote adventure.
Expedition Overview and Preparation
The expedition was launched on August 23 from Pooh, led by Lieutenant General DG Misra, General Officer Commanding of the Uttar Bharat Area. A total of 17 civilians participated alongside military personnel who offered guidance and support throughout the climb. Prior to their ascent, the team underwent extensive training that included acclimatization, rock climbing, jumaring, rappelling, and securing base camps.
Beginning in Nako, the team traversed through several camps, namely the Base Camp, Advanced Base Camp, and Summit Camp. They faced adverse weather conditions multiple times, testing their perseverance and teamwork. The culmination of their efforts came when they successfully reached the summit on September 9, showcasing not only their physical endurance but also their mental resolve.
Celebrating Success and Unity
The expedition concluded with a flag-in ceremony in Pooh, where participants were celebrated for their remarkable spirit and the successful completion of the mission. Army officials praised the synergy between the military and civilian team members, emphasizing how their collective effort exemplified the true essence of Operation Sadbhavana.
“This expedition not only highlights the adventurous spirit of India but also reinforces the bond of trust and collaboration between the Army and the local community,”
an Army spokesperson stated during the ceremony.
The successful ascent of Mount Reo Pargial stands as a testament to the strength of human will against the formidable forces of nature. It illustrates the Indian Army’s commitment to enhancing military-civil ties while inspiring future expeditions and adventures.
