Global Lions Gather in Ahmedabad to Celebrate Service and Culture

The city of Ahmedabad is hosting an important gathering of the Board of Directors of Lions Clubs International from October 14 to 17, 2025. This marks the first time this prestigious meeting is being held in Gujarat, bringing together an 85-member delegation from 25 countries, led by AP Singh, the International President of Lions Clubs International. The event combines a focus on humanitarian projects with the vibrant celebration of Diwali, showcasing the region’s cultural heritage.
During this four-day visit, delegates will explore some of India’s most impactful community service initiatives alongside the festive spirit of Gujarat. “This visit is about learning from the best,” stated AP Singh, underscoring the significance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in humanitarian efforts. He noted that Lions Clubs International, recognized as the world’s largest service organization, has set high standards in areas such as healthcare, education, and social welfare.
Showcasing Gujarat’s Humanitarian Spirit
The Lions Clubs operate an extensive network across India, including 60 dialysis centres, 55 blood banks, 175 eye hospitals, and over 200 schools. One of their major upcoming projects is the development of a ₹100 crore cancer hospital in Surat, reflecting their commitment to improving healthcare access.
Delegates will participate in various activities, including tours of key social impact centres such as the Rohit Mehta Lions Medical Hub and the Lions Hub in Ahmedabad. The itinerary features visits to the Lions Karnavati Eye Hospital, a dialysis centre, and the Lalji Mehrotra Lions School. A special service project will see delegates distributing artificial limbs and assistive devices to over 100 specially-abled individuals, alongside donating books from their home countries to enrich the school’s library.
On October 15, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, will host a high tea in Gandhinagar, where he will be awarded the Lions Club International Medallion. The day will conclude with intimate Diwali dinners at the homes of Lions leaders, offering delegates an authentic experience of Indian hospitality.
Celebrating Heritage and Community
The following day will see delegates visiting other notable initiatives, including the Lions Hall Health & Care Foundation and the Blind People’s Association. The trip will culminate on October 17 with a Diwali celebration at senior citizens’ homes in Ambli and Kasindra, where delegates will distribute festive hampers to over 110 elderly residents.
The gathering will conclude with a grand event at Jal Tarang near Adalaj ni Vav, featuring a 35-member cultural troupe from Vrindavan that will perform classical representations of major Indian festivals such as Janmashtami, Holi, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Shivratri. This event highlights the intertwining of humanitarian work and cultural celebration that characterizes this international gathering.
Pravin Chhajed, Past International Director, expressed the essence of the event, stating, “Ahmedabad stands as a beacon of service. Our projects are not only large in scale but rooted deeply in compassion. We’re proud to share our work and our culture with the global Lions family.”
This assembly in Ahmedabad embodies the Lions Clubs International motto — “We Serve” — perfectly merging the spirit of humanitarian service with the joy of cultural festivities.
