Eight officers from the Delhi Police have been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), following an official order from the Ministry of Home Affairs issued on Friday. This significant advancement in rank recognizes their contributions and responsibilities within the force, particularly as they lead various divisions across the capital.

Among the officers elevated to the DIG rank, seven currently serve as Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) in different districts of Delhi. The list includes notable figures such as Nidhin Valsan, who oversees the Central district, Abhishek Dhania from the East district, Bhisham Singh representing the North-West, Rajeev Ranjan from Rohini, and Devesh Kumar Mahla of New Delhi. Additionally, Rakesh Paweriya, who is in charge at the Headquarters, Ravi Kumar Singh, leading the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), and Mohammed Ali, currently serving as Deputy Director of the Delhi Police Academy, have also received this promotion.

The promotions are based on recommendations made by a screening committee during a meeting held on December 8. The official order stated, “In pursuance of the recommendations of the Screening Committee in its meeting held on December 8, the following IPS officers of the AGMUT cadre, currently posted in the cadre, are hereby promoted to the DIG grade (Level 13-A in the Pay Matrix) with effect from January 1, 2026, or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever is later.”

This elevation signifies a recognition of the officers’ commitment and service in their respective roles within the Delhi Police. The DIG rank is vital for the operational effectiveness of the police force, enhancing leadership capabilities in managing law enforcement and maintaining public safety in one of the world’s most populous cities.

The Ministry of Home Affairs aims to ensure a robust and effective police force, and these promotions are part of a broader strategy to enhance governance and operational efficiency within the Delhi Police.
